After visiting my patients, I said hello to a little old lady sitting in the back. She struck up a conversation with me winding stories around stories. Admittedly, I was a bit annoyed and ready to get out of there. We ended our conversation....and she started to cry.
She felt like no one wanted her. That she was always being pushed aside. Staff treated her as if she wasn't a real person. I gave her minutes of my time and it meant the world to her. We all want to feel that connection to others and everyone deserves that.
I'll always remember that a second is enough to give someone love and hope.
